Fiddlehead focus

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

One element I love to bring to my designs is the use of indoor plants. They add color, texture, volume, and can help support a healthy home. One plant that I have absolutely fallen in love with is the Fiddlehead Fig tree. Not only does it have a super fun name, but they are gorgeous. Just look at how well they compliment these spaces.

a neutral notion

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

(I’ve got to laugh). Originally this post was going to feature bold oranges, reds, and golds - all the beautiful colors of the season, right? But then I looked outside my window and realized - you missed peak season kiddo… So, while this post may not feature the breadth of color that was originally planned, I still think these warm tonal spaces are quite delicious just the same.

With the onset of snuggly weather, I thought I might offer a bit of toasty fireplace inspiration. Aren’t these delightful?

May your home be merry & bright

Talk about amazing… Recently I had the pleasure of meeting a very talented woman with a remarkable home. Miss Kandi has a fantastic eye, not just for decorating, but the architectural details as well. Between her creative vision and her husband’s proficiency in carpentry, there is little they cannot accomplish. Perhaps my most favorite feature of their 1904 home is the kitchen’s fireplace (bottom right), followed closely by the second set of stairs, which would have been originally used by the house staff.

Thank you again Miss Kandi!

This is one post subject I will have to revisit again - and soon! I found SO many fabulous fireplace images, I couldn’t possibly share them all in one sitting. Which style do you like best?

Style wise

Friday, September 9th, 2011

My style? Mid-century/Bohemian. What does that say about me? I like to walk a fine, yet complicated line between classic-linear-graceful-modesty and artsy-funk-organic-fantastic. But that is just me.

Probably one of the best things about my job is the opportunity to explore, celebrate, and play with the variety of styles that exist. No two people or families are alike, and our interiors should honor that which makes us different.

So! Consider this the first in what will be a new series dedicated to style. First up, Traditional. What characteristics define this style? I would say Traditional is classic, sophisticated, possibly more on the formal side, with lots of symmetry. Check out these gorgeous images:

I have a confession…

… I love to watch British television and movies. Don’t judge! There is something wonderful about their accents, the landscape, and the charming villages with cobblestone streets. I find myself engrossed in studying the architecture, trying to understand the way they think, dress and decorate their homes. Perhaps it is simply the cumulative experience of witnessing something unknown and exotic that is so fascinating to me.

At any rate, this weekend I watched the critically acclaimed “The King’s Speech.” Very good! But what may have stolen the show for me was the Therapy Room. The walls, the fireplace, the windows - amazing!!!
